Thank You for building this big battery. I didn't like using the TH-D75 unless I was around a charger. Now with all day capacity, this is my favorite radio.
I appreciate the workmanship of this extended battery. It is well worth the price and the fact that another Ham made it makes it that much better.
The Kenwood TX D75A belt clip is attached to the HT with Phillips head screws, which makes it fairly convenient as my pocketknife has that type of driver head. When the W0AEZ 5000mAh battery arrived, I noticed right away that it had longer screws to accommodate the thicker clip backing, but these were Allen head screws instead of Phillips. I went to my local hardware store and bought some Phillips M3 screws in the proper length to solve this issue so now if I had to swap battery packs for some reason I can do it with a tool I always carry. However, I doubt I will need to swap it out because so far I have been able to operate all day long on a single full charge, many of those QSO's have been at full 5 watts power. Prior to getting this extended battery pack I had to limit my QSO time and constantly monitor power level. Now I find that I can carry out QSOs with confidence without worrying about running out of juice. The battery is definitely thicker than the original, and the snap fit to the HT is a bit tricky to achieve - I have to really push it in hard to get it to stay on, but once properly latched on, it will stay on. When the USB-C cable is plugged into the Kenwood side charging jack, the lightning symbol appears on the battery charge indicator. When the charging cable is plugged directly into the W0AEZ 5000mAh battery pack when attached to the radio, unfortunately the lightning symbol does not appear because that is a software function inside the HT. Note that when the battery pack is detached from the HT, there is an indicator LED on the contact (inside) side of the battery, but that is not visible when attached to the HT. That minor downside is negligible when weighing the benefits of much longer QSO time.
I love this bigger battery. The radio is more steady especially when using a larger (longer) antenna. Runs for days and looks great.
Using the TH-D75 in the Tacoma Washington area. It’s a true performer and modified MARS makes it even better. Using the Smiley Tri-band antenna. It’s a must in a large metro area.
