Case Variations Explained

Hidden Antenna: This uses a PCB antenna mounted to the inside top of the case. No stubby antenna to get caught on anything. PCB antenna rated at 0.98dbi gain.
Stubby Antenna: This uses a PCB antenna mounted in the slot of the nubby protrusion of the top case. PCB antenna is rated at 0.98dbi gain.
External SMA: This uses an externally mounted SMA connector so you can use a SMA antenna of your choice. This version includes a folding 915mhz antenna pre-installed.

Great Battery!

So appreciate the workmanship and quality of this battery. Bought a spare Yaesu FT1XDR for cheap and this battery makes it a great radio for SOTA or everyday carry. Being able to recharge via USB C is huge! This is now my fav travel HT with no need to take other cables to charge other things. Such a great idea and execution - thanks!

Must Have!

Honestly, this is a must have for this radio if you plan to transmit and actively use APRS/GPRs. The stock battery can simply not run this radio at its full potential for more than a couple hours at best ... throw in some 5W QSOs and you will even have less time. I pretty much go at least a couple of days without needing to charge, that includes a few nets etc. What I also like about this battery is it makes it easier for me to hold the radio, and it is more stable when sitting on a desk etc ...

Overall, very happy. FT-5D radios eat batteries, so an extended life battery is great. The case has a good feel, though a little bit tight in the fit. Perhaps that will get better over time. Highly recommended.
