Yaesu FT5 5AH battery review

This is my second battery from Kevin, and I just want to say that the fit and finish of the new style battery are EXCELLENT. The modifications made from customer input are well done and it is apparent that Kevin listens to customer input. As a side note, I have tested both batteries (old and new case style) and both performed exactly the same. I got 27+ hours out of each battery with the FT5 in Scan mode on "heavy" usage with the volume at over 1/2!! I also got 22 hours of total battery time when running in scan mode, high volume AND transmitting 15 minutes of each hour (for 8 hours) on 5W (High power).

The case color match is excellent, and the Orange case is extremely visible at a distance. I teach SAR activities and usually use the Orange case as an example to my students about how things "disappear" in the desert landscape.

I would, without hesitation recommend this battery to anyone who has one of these radios. Considering that the factory Yaesu battery is basically the same price, I see no need to use the factory battery ever again. Lastly, the factory belt clip is a perfect fit onto this battery and for the extra space that this battery takes up, it is well worth changing from the factory battery.

Lastly, the radio stands solid when placed on a table and gives much more real estate to the bottom of the radio in case of accidental tip-over.

Excellent cradle for the FT-5DR with the BP-Y14L v6

I first bought just the BP-Y14L battery which works really well and gives you much longer run time. The cradle works really well so my radio charges and sits upright. The radio fits well inside it and a, igns well, with the USB-C jack in the bottom. Great product and purchase!

24/7 x 365 x 2 radios x 1+ years

I now have 7 of these battery packs; two of them run 24 hours a day pretty much every day with 4 in rotation and have for more than a year, I’m guessing. The run times are phenomenal, up to a day and a half monitoring, and depending on many potential radio settings. Size wise the battery/radio combo can still fit in a jacket pocket easily. They can be charged anywhere you’ve got access to USB-C and can be charged much more quickly than the stock batteries. The shells are very strong though can become a tad compliant on the warmest of summer days. Overall, I LOVE THESE BATTERIES!!

Awesome power

These are all great batteries I own 3 of the 4 colors. There is a standard black, and orange. Then this tan Ham Radio 2.0, along with a green 2.0. They all for well. They have about 3 times the life over the stock battery. USB-C and a really good price point.

FT-5 battery kit

Bought a couple for my Dad and I to do as a project together. Watch the linked video, it makes the steps go smooth. Wasn’t overwhelming or too difficult. The end product is great. After a full charge, I left the radio on with APRS running tx every 60 min and the pack got me 20 hours. No complaints here. In addition, customer service is outstanding. Communication was fast and to the point.

Worth the wait

I've been using this battery pack for several weeks now and it's fantastic! Lasts for days and charges quickly with a high current charger.
Here's the caveat, I bought it as a kit and it was a bit intimidating, but I was up for a challenge and have pretty good soldering skills. It was difficult and I ran into a few issues that were promptly addressed by W0AEZ.
Assembled and working great, but I would highly recommend spending the money and buying already assembled.
